Padang..Here we come!

May 5, 2008

2day marks the end of an era when green and black used to dominated the rugby arena in the A Division Rugby Championship. A quote from william shakespeare’s king lear clearly illustrates this: The younger rises when the old doth fall. 2day is the day when the ACS(I) rugby team take on the challenge of facing their victors last yr during the A Division Rugby Championship 2007 (Raffles Junior College) in this yr’s A Division Rugby Championship 2008 semi-finals. Although Raffles are defending champions, we as ACSians were not daunted and just a few months ago, we punished RJC by a painful 39-0 in the group stages of the first-ever ISSAC tournament.

Before the whistle blew for the start, Raffles fired themselves up at the with their haka rendition, while the we linked up to stare down, and blandon tan saw fit to stand apart from his teammates, at one point turning his back on the RJC team as he adjusted his scrum cap. That was like real cool of him to do that.

The match started with each side giving their 110% and soon, we scored the 1st try of the match and blandon tan converted successfully to give us a 7-0 lead. However, RJC fought back and threatened our defense time and time again, although they had a try disallowed, they scored a penalty in the end to bring the score to 7-3. However, we were not done yet and we immediately replied with another try to bring the score to 12-3. The 1st half ended with the score remaining at 12-3 and we seemed to have dominated the half.

The 2nd half started with much intensity while RJC knew this match was a do-or-die match as a loss would mean they have to settle for 3rd/4th placing, therefore they rallied their forces and managed to score a try bringing the score to 12-8. We pushed even harder but were pinned back at our own half for a large period of time but through the encouragement of the supporters and with the ACS spirit ignited, we huff and puff to score another try extending our lead with a score of 17-8. Although RJC fought valiantly and even managed to narrow the score to 17-13, we held on and pushed for victory. We even had a drop kick attempt from 15m out that hit the left upright. When the final whistle sounded, we knew we had done our job: defeating the defending champions and setting up a final with SAJC at padang on 12th May monday.

Now…the green and black of Raffles has been outshone by the red, blue and gold of ACS…lets welcome the coming of a new era where the A Division Rugby Championship will once again have a chance to find its way back to the doorsteps of Anglo-Chinese School since 2003. To God be the Glory, The Best Is Yet To Be!
